About Calvin Harris, (born 17 January 1984), is a Scottish singer, songwriter and record producer. He was born and grew up in Dumfries, Scotland.
His first album I Created Disco was released on 18 June 2007. The album contained up-tempo electroclash songs that were influenced by music from the 1980s. To promote 'I Created Disco', Harris embarked on a tour of the UK, supporting Faithless and Groove Armada.
The first release from the album was Vegas on limited edition vinyl and the first charted single released from the album was Acceptable In The 80's, a tribute to the style and culture of the decade. The song reached the top ten on the UK singles chart, remaining on the chart for fifteen weeks. The Girls was the album's second charted single. “I feel so close to you right now, it’s a force field.” This hook in the lyrics kicks off the song “Feel So Close” with immediate impact and underlining provide by piano chords. Sung by Calvin Harris himself, the effect is charming and intimate. It’s not long before “Feel So Close” kicks into full bore club mode. However, the song is consistently anchored by the romantic line, “I feel so close to you right now” in Calvin Harris‘ own quirky, deadpan voice.
Calvin Harris rides a wave of club ready music moving into the pop mainstream. It is becoming more difficult to discern the difference between what we hear on the radio and what would be played at a dance club. Along with the likes of Avicii and Skrillex, Calvin Harris is looking to move beyond the dance genre into mainstream pop stardom here in the US. He has already achieved it at home in the UK.
